I found this while (mis)typing the caption to yesterdays photo competition. Is it any wonder that those meerkats have to keep telling the world about their website to avoid confusion with a comparison shopping site? Even the Mac’s spell checker gets it wrong.

This weeks PhotoFriday theme is “Constructed.” Unfortunately, while this picture may look appropriate I should probably tell you that I’m cheating. This image is, in fact, of the demolition, the deconstruction, of a car park near where I live.

It’s dark when I get up in the morning and it’s dark when I leave work in the evening. I’m not a huge fan of this time of year… But, it did mean that I was in central London yesterday for a lovely sunset. Sunset, of course, being the traditional segue into “Evening,” which is this weeks PhotoFriday theme.

I think like many photographers I love “Reflections,” this weeks PhotoFriday challenge theme, and have many images that feature them. However, I wanted to use a picture that I’ve not already used for a challenge and that pushed me towards this picture I took from my office window a few weeks ago: a Union Jack reflected in a window.

Today marks “Juniors” nine month “birthday,” so, unless you want to be pedantic and count the exact number of weeks, he’s been “out” for as long as he was in utero.

His progress has been well documented elsewhere so I won’t go into detail, but it’s fair to say that it’s been an eventful few months.

For most of the last year I have been in an office with no natural light. Well, I say office. It was really a conference room with a dozen of us crammed in, two to a desk in my case. Cables everywhere; at one point they almost shut the project room down for health and safety violations.

But — getting to the point — a couple of months ago we moved. And not only was there natural light but I got a window seat. And what a view.

There are no guarantees when travelling in the UK. Even in May the weather can be all over the place, beautiful, bright and sunny one minute, drab, grey and miserable the next.

There are no guarantees when travelling with a five month old baby. They can be bright and cheery and laughing one minute and crying and screaming the next.

Here is my entry for this weeks PhotoFriday challenge, “Grandeur.” For those that have been following the current series of The Apprentice, you’ll realise that this image represents English Sparkling Wine. In this case, I’ve stretched the concept even further. In the programme, it was a French word used to describe an English sparkling wine. Here, it’s a bottle of Italian, still wine. Never mind.

Blocking content from the Internet is getting a lot of press of late. The last couple of weeks has seen the Pirate Bay being blocked by a number of large ISPs and debate over whether the blocking of “adult” content should be opt-in or opt-out.

Unfortunately the enthusiasm to “protect the children” and “protect the copyright holders” seems to have pushed aside much of the debate of whether we should be doing this at all or whether it’s practical.

I took a pretty literal interpretation of this weeks PhotoFriday theme, “Best of 2011.” I guess I could have used something that signified highlights of the year on a global scale, say my exclusive and so far unreleased images of Osama bin Laden and Gaddafi, but, frankly, nothing better signifies 2011 to me than the birth of my son a few weeks ago.
